1. Don't Put All of Your Eggs in One Basket

One big mistake that many farmers make is putting all of their eggs in one basket and depending on just one type of income. For example, if you depend solely on your summer crops but if it's very hot and dry during the summer, you might not bring in much of an income at all for the year. A better option is to mix things up and to have multiple streams of income, such as by planting different types of crops at different times of the year and investing in livestock for breeding, for example. Then, if one stream of income does poorly because of the weather, you will have other money coming in.
